Hello my name is Michael McGarvey. I am 36 years of age. I’m a husband to my lovely wife Natasha and proud father to my daughter Madison, we have lived and grown our family in Carling over the past three years as we moved back into this beautiful area we get to call home. I currently own/ operate Foxlite Services an automotive repair shop in Carling Township. I have been in the automotive field for the past 18 years maintaining various positions such as 310S technician, service writer, sales person and service manager. I take great pride in my career as a mechanic as I get interact with the community at a practical level along with keeping the “wheels turning” so to speak. I enjoy spending my time with my family and friends be it of course fixing or building something, Cruising in our classic car to another Tuesday Cruzers night or simply counting down the days to go camping. I also get the opportunity to serve on our Carling Fire Department as a firefighter which I enjoy greatly as I have gotten to meet so many wonderful people in our community and help those whom are in need.

I believe I am a great candidate for our Carling township council as I am a level headed, hardworking individual. I have always been a firm believer in honesty and education, in turn by applying those traits I wish to see Carling thrive and grow. Keeping itself our beautiful slice of paradise. Ive always enjoyed meeting new people and hearing their stories. Our stories make us uniquely who we are and I look forward to hearing yours. Thank you for taking the time and reading about me I look forward to the opportunity to serve my community and my family to the best of my abilities.

Answers to our questions

Question 01

In your opinion, what are the top three issues facing Carling over the next decade? What ideas/strategies would you propose to address these concerns?

First top issue in my opinion would be maintaining residential affordability for existing and new residents. Strategies would include keeping tax rate growth steady and predictable. Long term planning for township projects so ratepayers can see long term goals and financial structures in place. Lastly township held programs that help residents with various DIY tasks that improve knowledge and skills of household maintenance

Second top issue in my opinion would be as Carling continues to become more developed is that we have adequate infrastructure in place to accommodate this growth comfortably. Strategies include evaluating our road system and ensuring all roads can remain accessible year-round, along with public access points, our waste management systems, and our emergency services are well trained and equipped. Proper planning is needed so we can make these adjustments affordably and not be left with last minute repairs or unnecessary burdens to ratepayers.

Third top issue in my opinion in the next decade would be our large demographic of aged individuals in our township. We as a township need to look into what possible services can we obtain to aid these individuals via transportation, food delivery services and medical resources. This will in turn preserve personal independence and reduce any potential increased burden on emergency services. I wish to continue pursuing the installation of a nursing station in Carling which in turn should promote additional resources to be available.

Question 02

What prompted you to run for council?

Ive decided to run for council as I wish to have the most direct effect in my community involvement, I wish to see certain aspects of our township’s operations be improved be it for young and old a like or our large seasonal community whom make Carling their second home
