Office: Councillor

  • Diane Beggs

    Meet Diane Beggs

    Candidate for Carling Township Council

    Hello,

my name is Diane Beggs, and I’ve proudly called Carling home for over 33 years. My husband, Paul “The Breadman” Beggs, and I raised our four children here, and today we’re fortunate to enjoy watching our family grow with four grandchildren and another on the way.

After many years as a registered nurse, I retired with a lifetime of experience caring for people and serving my community. I’ve also volunteered with Girl Guides, Scouts, 4-H, and many local organizations because I believe strong communities are built by neighbours helping neighbours.

I’m running for Council because I want to continue giving back to the community that has given so much to my family. I will listen, work hard, and represent the interests of all residents with honesty, respect, and common sense.

I would be honoured to earn your trust and your vote.

    Thank you for your support.

Diane Beggs, Candidate for Carling Township Council

  • Al Doubrough

Ida and I have been married for 46 years, and we chose to move to Carling 36 years ago with our 3 sons, Joe (Lt.Col. RCAF), Dan (Master Electrician), and Kevin (Lt.Col. RCAF). Carling is a wonderful place to raise a family, and this has inspired me to run again for the position of Township Councillor. Carling’s natural beauty, combined with wonderful landscape, wildlife and the magnificence of Georgian Bay requires a commonsense approach to governance to preserve what we all love in this Township. Leadership is a key factor that I will continue to bring to Council. In my career choices and volunteer work I have been a strong leader. I continue to give back to Carling because it is important. The Carling community is second to no other community in Ontario.

I was educated as an Electronic Engineering Technologist, I began working for Transport Canada in communications and navigational equipment at Pearson Airport for 3 years and then for the next 27 years I was employed with the Ontario Provincial Police as a Uniformed Patrol Officer, Crime Unit Detective, Marine Officer, Hostage Negotiator and Tech OPS Covert Officer. Since retiring from the OPP in 2009, I entered the private sector as manager of technical surveillance countermeasures section, then founded 2 successful corporations for high-end Technical Security Examinations (2015) and supporting equipment manufacturers (2019). The experience gained from starting two companies from nothing has been an asset in preparing for a role as a Councillor. My corporations deal with Risk Management and Mitigation for small and large Corporations. These experiences, when teamed up with my Investigative Skills, have proven useful in exercising due diligence and good Governance for the ratepayers of Carling Township. Experiences from the past 4 years on Council and skills obtained from my many years with the Police and in Private Business has assisted me greatly moving forward as your Councillor.

I am a person with very strong values of honesty, truth, transparency, and personal integrity. I believe these 4 key principles are important for a Quality Council and its Councillors. Council is accountable to the ratepayers of Carling Township. Communication is a key to achieving this goal. Council needs to keep residents apprised of its decisions to maintain transparency in a timely manner. In our term, I advocated and we were successful in acquiring a new Township Position, Communication Person, to improve transparency. The Integrity of the Council requires adherence to a code of moral values. This leads to sound decisions and incorruptible Councillors. It follows that Councillors will be honest, and Council will conduct business with fairness and straightforwardness. Throughout the term, as in all dealings of my life, I have dealt with issues utilizing these simple but important traits.

Throughout this Campaign process you may hear promises “to lower taxes” but no substance on how this or other solutions will be achieved. Carling Council has kept taxes to the lowest increase in the West Parry Sound Communities for the last 4 years. We continue to ensure minimal impact on our taxes through Grant Applications and responsible Governance. Four years ago, I put forward a real Vision for a Nurse Practitioner Lead Clinic (NPLC). The Township Council continues to voice support for the NPLC with the West Parry Sound Ontario Health Team. This would enable our residents to have quality, timely health care without queueing at the West Parry Sound Health Centre Emergency Department for basic medical needs. Also, I am advocating to bringing other professionals to Carling Township. I am putting forward a real Vision for Carling Township! These projects will only happen with proper articulation of our Community needs through communication and partnerships between Provincial Government Departments and Carling Council.

  • Kit (Christopher) Harrison

Biography – I have lived and worked in Carling for most of my life, with nearly 23 years spent working for my family’s marina. I even coordinated service work whilst attending university for chemistry. I worked briefly for a commissioning company which involved me travelling to the Philippines to complete third party inspections on high rise buildings mechanical systems. I was a member of the Kinsmen in Parrys Sound until 2016. In 2016 I moved to Toronto and began working for Solar Provider Group where I travelled extensively in the United States, from Georgia to California. I eventually came to run the Business Development team, coordinating activities across several time zones throughout Europe. I eventually transferred to work directly for the President of the company and acted as his chief researcher and salesperson for various start-up endeavors. Most noteworthy of these was the Green Power Exchange, which was aimed at creating a peer-to-peer energy trading market for renewable power in the United States wholesale power market. During this work I once again travelled extensively in the USA, giving speeches at conferences and securing deals with renewable energy companies to list their power on our exchange during the prototyping stage. I secured nearly 4 Gigawatts (enough to power 3-4 million homes) of capacity interest during this time. I moved back to Parry Sound in 2018 with my then girlfriend and eventually wife, Ana, to take over Harrison Landing Marina. Working closely with my family, I doubled revenue in two years through a focused approach of finding what activities yielded value by creating and measuring Key Performance Indicators.

I am uniquely qualified for Carling Council as I have been a front facing component of my family’s business for nearly a quarter century. I handle the books, sales, and client interactions. I am always on the lookout to find my clients the best solution but also the best value for the work. I keep a watchful eye on all inflows and outflows from the marina to ensure long term financial health, but also to ensure we are spending our money in ways that constantly make life better. This is a good fit for council as we must always be forward looking, whilst conserving and safeguarding what we have.

  • Jordan Miller

Jordan Miller — Candidate for Carling Township Council

My name is Jordan Miller. I’m 46 years old, engaged to my wonderful fiancée, Katharyn, and proud to call Carling home.

My connection to Carling goes back generations. My great-grandfather, Rev. William J. Christie, helped establish Camp Franklin on Franklin Island in 1922. What began as a boys’ camp grew into a well-known youth and family camp that brought people to Georgian Bay, employed local residents and introduced generations of visitors to the area’s natural beauty. That tradition continued through my family. My great-uncle, Don Christie, and his wife, Elinor, built or renovated close to 200 cottages in the area before selling their business in 1971. My 87-year-old father grew up on the same family property where I live today, and helping care for him is an important part of my life.

After finishing high school, I chose entrepreneurship and became involved in several successful small businesses, including a fruit market, home renovations, a tanning salon and outdoor paintball games. These ventures taught me the value of hard work, financial responsibility and practical problem-solving. Today, I work full-time in Carling as a heavy-equipment operator and am involved in marina operations and work throughout Georgian Bay and its islands. I am also a licensed septic designer and installer and a commercially licensed vessel operator. My work has given me hands-on experience with septic systems, utilities, drainage, excavation, parking areas, shoreline projects and the infrastructure challenges of a municipality like Carling.

I am an active member of Snug Harbour Church and help with its weekly operations. I enjoy speaking with people throughout our community and, most importantly, listening to their ideas and concerns. Both year-round and seasonal residents have an important stake in Carling’s future, and I believe a councillor should be approachable, available and willing to listen.

I am running for Council because I believe Carling can continue to progress while protecting what makes this community special.

    • Transparency & Accountability: Residents should be able to clearly see how decisions are made, where their tax dollars are going, and have easy access to Council meetings, records and municipal financial information.
    • Environmental Stewardship & Responsible Progress: I support responsible development and infrastructure improvements while minimizing our environmental footprint and protecting the water, shorelines, forests and natural character that make Carling special. My goal is to help leave Carling financially strong, environmentally protected, transparent in its government and better than we found it.
